Dyan Machan is a senior writer at Smart Money magazine since 2006 and author of monthly column Smart Ideas. Machan focuses on chief executive profiles and covers money management, executive compensation as well as small business. Prior to Smart Money she was a senior editor at Forbes where she worked for 15 years. At Forbes, she developed a successful column called The Forbes Lunch that invited readers to share lunch with a mover and shaker of the moment. Interviews from that series included Paul Volcker, Barry Diller and two heads of state. In 1999, Machan won Business Journalist of the Year while at Forbes. Prior to Forbes, Machan worked as an associate editor at Financial World magazine. Her 1986 article, for Financial World, "The Wall Street 100," detailed the one hundred highest paid people on Wall Street and became an important franchise for the magazine. The landmark article detailed the hundreds of millions of dollars paid to deal makers and made headlines across the world. She graduated cum laude from Kent State University School of Journalism.
