During journalism school, I won a writing competition for the chance to produce this article. It appeared in Across the Board magazine in 1979. As a result, I was offered jobs at AT&T and ABC. Making the wrong choice I went to AT&T and worked unhappily in its public relations department for two years. I tried journalism after that and found a home.
